Revenge Theme Song

revenge-theme-songThe plot of Revenge is very soap opera-like; in my country, it would be likened to that of a telenovela’s. Still, it has the great Madeline Stowe, the gorgeous Emily VanCamp, and a storyline good enough to spark interest and followers, and that want-to-know-what-happens-next style of delivery.

Forget about the opening theme though. The intro and credits reminds me very much of what Lost had—nearly nothing, just a chord that tries so hard to convey a feeling of mystery. But, don’t completely forget about the show’s music in general. There’s a theme there somewhere, and it makes itself known at the end. The end credits theme is actually good, albeit short, and people have already started looking for it.

Person of Interest Theme Song

POI-posterBen Linus and Jesus Christ! Jesus!

Interesting show right here, people, right? I mean, we haven’t seen a plot this unique in years. Although, I’m still on the first season and I’ve a lot of catching up to do. So many awesome shows!

You know what’s even more unique about this show and its theme song? It’s the showcase of one extraordinary man’s extraordinary talents. I’m talking about the great J. J. Abrams. We all know that this is his show (to some extent, at least), and he marked his territory further by creating the show’s (opening) theme. That’s right, surprise, surprise.

Arrow Theme Song

2012–present

arrow posterArrow is a girl’s show. Okay, that may be a bit harsh, but it does appeal to a lot of women. Why? Because of all the muscles. I mean, seriously, Stephen Amell, that’s some serious meat you’re packing. Jesus. (So ladies, the photo on the left is a tribute to you.)

Even Diggle (David Ramsey) looks like he sleeps in a gym or something.

Anyway, (spit), on to the theme song. Let’s put it this way—the show has good music, no question about that, but it is not definable by its theme. In fact, after the pilot (I think), the succeeding episodes were left with a nowadays-trend of a 10-second theme. Just a quick logo flash and a short tune.

Scandal Theme Song

2012-present

Scandal (ABC)Kerry Washington. Nice.

Truth be told, Scandal only became worthwhile during its second season. Agree? Let’s just say it became a lot more interesting. Anyway, Scandal isn’t really much of a theme song show, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have good music. Besides, its chief composer is a respected musician—Chad Fischer. Who is Chad Fischer? Glad you asked. He is part of the band Lazlo Bane; their claim to fame is the theme song for Scrubs, that catchy song entitled “Superman”.

So I guess Mr. Fischer continued down the path of television music. Now working by his lonesome, he is currently credited as the composer for 12 episodes of Scandal, including the opening and closing themes.

Unfortunately, the franchise hasn’t released anything music-related, so this tune is not part of anything commercially accessible. But, thank heavens for YouTube. Below is the theme as posted by someone obsessed with opening and closing credits.

I guess that’s it for now. Will update this post when something new comes up. (Also, the plan is to post an original capture of the credits.)

Suits Theme Song

2011-present

17 months of no posting—a new record, and it’s all because of Google.

Honestly, because of the rare combination a rockin’ (semi) new show with a very rockin’ theme song, this post was hard to pass up on. Suits is that USA Network sometimes-funny legal drama starring industry veteran Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams.

TV Trivia: Gabriel Macht almost played the role of Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) in Numb3rs.

Now on to the theme song. The original song is entitled “Greenback Boogie” and is by Los Angeles-based band Ima Robot. Ima Robot has been around since the late 90s; they are categorized (genre) as “synth rock” or “dance rock.”

“Greenback Boogie” is part of their third and latest album release, Another Man’s Treasure (2010) under Werewolf Heart Records. However, the song was only part of a 4-track b-side bonus if customers purchased the album from their official site, imarobot.com. The full song is 4:58 long.

Below is the official video of “Greenback Boogie” (complete song).

Below is the 30-second opening of the show.

Suits theme song lyrics (show edit)

The song used for the intro i actually an edited version. It contains part of the first verse and the third verse going to the “greenback boogie” chorus. See below.

See the money wanna stay, for your meal
Get another piece of pie, for your wife
Everybody wanna know, how it feel
Everybody wanna see, what it’s like
I’ll even eat a bean pie, I don’t mind
Me and Missy is so very busy busy making money
Alright
All step back, I’m ’bout to dance
The greenback boogie

WAIT! There’s more!

If you’re a real Suits fan, there’s one more catchy tune that you surely associate with the show. They play it mostly during the closing credits. It’s a short instrumental tune by the show’s composer Christopher Tyng. Tyng is a known television composer who has contributed to The O.C., Futurama, and Rescue Me among others. Below is the said tune.

Hot in Cleveland Theme Song

2010 – present

Ah, the great Betty White.

Hot in Cleveland is the first all-original series of the cable network TV Land; given that, they’re doing quite good—already renewed for a third season.

It has a very short, 10-second title sequence that shows nothing but a play in the show’s logo—from “LA” to “CLEVELAND” (L.A. being the setting of the leads’ backgrounds).

The song is quite catchy though, and it makes you wish it was part of a full song. However, it is not. Not officially credited (as the composer of the title tune), composers Ron Wasserman and Emerson Swinford are the only known composers of the series to date.

We have encountered Mr. Wasserman before, most notably for the theme to Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. He also goes by his aliases Aaron Waters and The Mighty RAW.

Lyrics?

Yes, well, I guess it’s nothing buy “Pa, pa, pa, pa. Pa, pa, pa, pa. Hey!”

As for the performers, no information yet.

See below for the short title sequence.

The Killing Theme Song

Glad to be back.

This is primarily for the American series and partly for the Danish series.

American – AMC

Here’s a fairly new series from AMC. First season is done and did quite well, and the order for a 13-episode second season has already been made official.

The Killing features a short and dark 30-second introduction sequence that features more of a background music than a catchy, series-defining theme song. The song is by a band called We Fell to Earth from London, England. I don’t think the song is titled and included in any commercial releases, as it perhaps was made especially for the show.

We may not be that familiar with We Fell to Earth but their songs have been featured in American television series such as Gossip Girl, CSI: NY, and Numb3rs.

YouTube users are weary of getting banned from uploading copyrighted material from AMC, so most of the videos you’ll see are distorted in some way. Like the one below, which plays the sequence in mirror image. Good thing the song is intact.

Denmark

If you don’t know yet, the U.S. The Killing is a remake of a Danish series that is entitled Forbrydelsen, meaning “The Crime”. As I do not know a word of Danish, I trust that this YouTube upload featured the correct theme song. It says it was composed by a certain Frans Bak. See below.

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Theme Song

If you must know, I am from the Philippines, so here’s a little tribute to the motherland. Also, Theme Songs is back!

I rarely watch local shows but this one is an exception. I’ve always loved The Biggest Loser franchise so when I found out the Philippines (there was already an Asian version) was coming up with one—and in a time slot that is quite convenient for me—I could not help but watch. At the time of posting this, the show is about to enter the top 10.

The theme for the show is very catchy. Its actual title is “Sabay Tayo“, and not “Magpapayat” as I (and I’m sure some of you did) originally thought. The song is by the band Mayonnaise; quite funny actually as I’m sure there’s an inside joke there somewhere (lead singer Monty Macalino can be a contestant—no offense and I actually do know Monty personally). I’m pretty sure he also is responsible for the writing.

The song is not (yet?) part of any commercial release.

In addition, knowing Monty, I’m sure it’s no coincidence the riff sounds exactly like Rivermaya’s “Elesi” (see video below).

Below is the official video of “Sabay Tayo”.

Below is Riveramaya’s “Elesi”.

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition theme song lyrics

Kamusta ka, aking kaibigan?
O pwede mo ba akong samahan na?

Tumalon (nang mataas)
Sumigaw (nang malakas)
Yumugyog (sumayaw)
Tumakbo (at gumalaw)
Tara na (sumama ka)
Wag kanang (mag-alala)
Eto na, sabay tayo magpapayat

Wag kanang mag dahilan
Kasi lalo lang lumalaki ang ating tiyan

Tumalon (nang mataas)
Sumigaw (nang malakas)
Yumugyog (sumayaw)
Tumakbo (at gumalaw)
Tara na (sumama ka)
Wag kanang (mag-alala)
Eto na, sabay tayo magpapayat

O di ba kayang kaya
Basta’t dapat lang laging masaya ka

Tumalon (nang mataas)
Sumigaw (nang malakas)
Yumugyog (sumayaw)
Tumakbo (at gumalaw)
Tara na (sumama ka)
Sa mundo (na kay ganda)
Wag kanang (mag-alala)
Di kita iiwan

Tumalon (nang mataas)
Sumigaw (nang malakas)
Yumugyog (sumayaw)
Tumakbo (at gumalaw)
Tara na (sumama ka)
Wag kanang (mag-alala)
Heto na, sabay tayo magpapayat
Magpapayat

The Terrible Thunderlizards Theme Song

Way too cool theme tune.

And you know why? Because it is by one of the top metal vocalists of all time—Dee Snider from the band Twisted Sister. That’s right. How many shows—some don’t even consider this a show really, as it was just a segment of Eek! The Cat—can brag about such a thing?

Free to catch the two humans
They’re gonna make your day
Here comes Doc Squat and Cutter
You best get out of their way

The Terrible Thunderlizards
The Terrible Thunderlizards

However, as cool a theme as this is, I don’t think Mr. Snider put much thought into it. The guitar riff sounds awfully like Alice in Chain’s “Man in the Box”.

Grunge f-in’ rules!

Pole Position Theme Song

If you ask me, this theme is definitely in the top five for cartoons. Pole Position!

So, remember in my Rainbow Brite post I said I don’t remember the last time I searched for an animated series without the names Shuki Levy and Haim Saban? So now guess who composed this theme? That’s right.

However, like most great cartoons of old, information regarding performers—vocalists, instrumentalists—is very hard to find. I hope someday this blog will be a medium for discussion regarding those “unsung” heroes.

So, let’s just enjoy the lyrics for now.

Pole Position theme song lyrics

[*spoken]

[From now on, like your parents were,
you are the secret force of Pole Position!]

They’re movin’ real fast
They’re the only ones who can get there on time
[Let’s go Dan. Okay sis’]

They’re never too far behind, they’re always fighting crime
[It’s stunt time Dan]
[Ready when you are Rhodie]

On the curve or a face in adventure in the danger zone
Pretty soon they’ll be off on a mission, come and watch them go!

[Hydrofoil mode, Rhodie]
[Hydrofoil engaged, Dan]

Pole Position! What’s behind this stunt show
[Wheels—hovercraft, quick]
[Anything you say, Tess]
Pole Position! What’s behind this stunt show
Pole Position! Only they’re on the road
Pole Position!

Sit back and watch them go
Hey-o, Hey-o, Hey-o, Hey-o, Hey-o

And of course, the theme song and opening.
