Mary Tyler Moore Theme Song

1970–1977; also, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song”

The Mary Tyler Moore Show starred, well, Mary Tyler Moore as Mary Richards. It was an American sitcom created by James L. Brooks (The Simpsons), and Allan Burns. Let’s just say this show is an acclaimed, award-winning show—especially because it featured a strong, never-married career woman as the central character, which was rather odd (or new) during its time.

Its theme song, played during the opening sequence, is “Love Is All Around”. It was written and performed by Sonny Curtis, an American singer and songwriter. Wikipedia lists “Love Is All Around” as “probably” his most famous work.

I believe the show has had many revisions of its opening sequence (using the same song) throughout its seven-season run. Below is the opening sequence for season one.

Mary Tyler Moore theme song lyrics

(Full song, non-show edit)

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it’s you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You’re gonna make it after all
You’re gonna make it after all

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you’re all alone
But it’s time you started living
It’s time you let someone else do some giving

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can have a town, why don’t you take it
You’re gonna make it after all
You’re gonna make it after all
