Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? Theme Song

1994–1998

This is for the animated series; the one inspired by the computer game. There was a PBS game show entitled Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? but this is not it—nor do I know (yet) if that had a theme song.

This show actually ran for four seasons (on FOX)—a lifetime in 90s animated shows. Its theme song was inspired by a Mozart classic. Wait, actually it is still a Mozart classic, they just changed the lyrics and modernized the instrumentation.

The Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart song is “Singt dem grossen Bassa Lieder” from the singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail. A singspiel is a German music drama and a genre of opera.

Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? theme song lyrics

Spoken: Where on earth is Carmen Sandiego?

Where is Carmen Sandiego?
Carmen Sandiego
Where on earth can she be?

Tell me,
Where is Carmen Sandiego?
Oh, Carmen Sandiego
Where on earth can she be?
Where on earth can she be?

Ooh, ooh, ooh

Sphinx, Mona Lisa
Leaning Tower of Pisa
London Zoo
Timbuktu
Can you help us find a clue?

Oh, Where is
Carmen Sandiego?
Carmen Sandiego
Where on earth
Can she be?

Where on earth can she be?

As to who performed and recorded the theme song, I still don’t know.

Below is the original intro to the series.

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Theme Song

1993–1996

Talking about composer Ron Wasserman from the previous post led me to this theme song.

Possibly the only Power Ranger to experience post-Power Rangers success, Amy Jo Johnson, is now 40 years old. She can be seen currently in the Canadian television series Flashpoint.

Anyway, back to the theme song. As previously mentioned, Ron Wasserman composed the theme song for Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. It is also probably what he is best known for, even though he also created for Sweet Valley High, and the previously-posted X-Men animated series. He is also part of the band Fisher.

The official title of the theme song is “Go Go Power Rangers”. It was released as part of the album Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Album: A Rock Adventure, which was released in 1994. In the album, Mr. Wasserman credits himself as The Mighty RAW.

“Go Go Power Rangers” is available in both a long version and a show-edit version in the album, and even had a remix in the UK release.

Below is a version (it changed with the addition of new characters) of the original opening title sequence.

There’s this guy, DragoWolf, who compiled all the opening sequences in one video, but he disabled embedding.

Below is the full-length version of the song.

Here is a link to the remix version.

Power Rangers theme song lyrics

They’ve got a power and a force that you’ve never seen before
They’ve got the ability to morph and to even up the score
No one will ever take them down the power lies on their side

Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

They know the fate of the world is lying in their hands
They know to only use their weapons for defense
No one will ever take them down the power lies on their side

Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
You Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

No one will ever take them down the power lies on their side

Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Go Go Power Rangers
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Go Go Power Rangers

Go Go Power Rangers

Go Go Power Rangers

Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers originally aired from August 28, 1993 to November 27, 2010 on FOX. It is currently (2010) being aired on ABC on the ABC Kids programming block, and whoa, someone already uploaded the ABC re-versioned opening sequence.

X-Men Theme Song

A quick message

Hey, hey, hey!

Hey, Happy New Year everybody! Time flies so fast and just like that, it is January 2. It has been a good 2010 for us here at Theme Songs, and we look forward to posting more this 2011. Anyway, from all of  us here, we wish you nothing but the best this 2011.

1992–1997; back to title post

So this post is primarily for the animated series, because that is what you think of when you hear “X-Men theme.”

The distinctive instrumental tune was written by Ron Wasserman. Oddly enough, the X-Men theme song is not his claim to fame, or what he is known best for. He also happened to write the theme for the Power Rangers series, so I guess that trumps that.

Ron Wasserman is also 1/2 of the duo/band, Fisher, along with Kathy Fisher. To be honest, I don’t really know what songs they are known for (check their Wikipedia here). It is also said that Mr. Wasserman frequently uses the aliases Aaron Waters and The Mighty RAW.

The song is not really part of any official releases, but it is available from some best-of TV themes albums and independent releases.

As for the films, well, it’s quite sad that the theme song did not make it to the big screen, but that’s not to say the films didn’t have great music. In X-Men (1), Michael Kamen scored the film, then John Ottoman for X2, and finally John Powell for X-Men: The Last Stand.

Below is the original theme song and opening sequence for the animated series.

The Good Guys Theme Song

2010

Same-day update

Funny I did research after the fact. I just saw this from Locksley’s site. That is an official LEGAL download link. Click below to go directly.

Download “Slink” legally.

Original post

There have been three television shows entitled “The Good Guys”—2010, 1968, and one in Britain. This post is for the 2010 version, the one on FOX, the one that has already been canceled. Damn! I’m too late.

Anyway, for archiving purposes, the theme song for The Good Guys is entitled “Slink” (officially, “Slink (A Hymn)”). It is by a band who call themselves Locksley. I believe the song was written entirely for the show, as it is not available as part of their previously released materials.

No real opening credits videos are currently available (contributions, anyone?), but below is a lyrics video of the song.

Bones Theme Song

2005-present

Folks at home watch this almost everyday (thanks, FOX), and I can’t believe I still don’t have it here.

Anyway, I love that episode where they made Emily Deschanel dress as Wonder Woman.

The theme song for Bones is rather cool. It is by American electronic music duo The Crystal Method. I don’t know if you’re old enough to know them but I remember their song, “Trip Like I Do” from the nineties.

From the official soundtrack, the song is simply titled “Bones Theme” and lasts 33 seconds only. However, there is a “Bones Theme (DJ Corporate Remix)“, also from the soundtrack, that lasts 3:52.

Below is said theme song.

Below is a music-only video of said remix.

Human Target Theme Song

2010

Human Target is a semi-new action drama television series from Fox that stars Mark Valley—The 4400, and Chi McBride—Boston Public, among others. Its second season premiered just last November 17, 2010.

Its theme song was also nominated for the 2010 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. However, as we have already discussed this year’s winner, it did not win.

What’s surprising though is that given it already has a cool theme song (it was nominated, right?), they still changed it for the second season.

Another thing surprising is the official soundtrack for season one is a 3-disc boxed set. I mean, isn’t that a little too overkill?

In the soundtrack, the theme is simply credited as “Theme from Human Target”. It was composed by American Bear McCreary—known for his work on Battlestar Galactica.

Below is the super official (it is from Fox’s official YouTube channel) opening credits for season one featuring the Emmy-nominated theme.

Below is a music-only video of the extended theme (lasts 1:30).

Below is the new theme for season two. It was composed by Tim Jones. Now, I’m sure Mr. Jones is an excellent composer, and musician as well, but after the outstanding season one theme, this new one kind of sounds silly.

Malcolm in the Middle Theme Song

2000–2006

Frankie Muniz is a man now.

Alright, here goes. The theme song for Malcolm in the Middle was written and recorded by the American rock band They Might Be Giants. It is entitled “Boss of Me”.

You might know They Might Be Giants for—what I consider their most popular song—”Doctor Worm”.

“Boss of Me” was written specifically for the show, and was only released as part of the original soundtrack of the series, Music from Malcolm in the Middle.

Also, because of this song, the band won their first Grammy Award in 1992, for the category Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

The band also performed almost all of the original scoring for the first two seasons of the series.

Below is the original intro for the show featuring the theme song. (Ripped from Spanish TV. Contains dubs in the end and a weird anime clip.)

Malcolm in the Middle theme song lyrics (show edit)

Yes, no, maybe
I don’t know
Can you repeat the question?

You’re not the boss of me now
You’re not the boss of me now
You’re not the boss of me now, and you’re not so big
You’re not the boss of me now
You’re not the boss of me now
You’re not the boss of me now, and you’re not so big

Life is unfair

Lie to Me Theme Song

2009–present

I’m tired. Let me get straight to the point.

The theme song for Lie to Me is entitled “Brand New Day” by American musician Ryan Star. If you know and love television, you would probably remember him as a contestant in Rock Star: Supernova. The song is part of his second album, 11:59.

Below is the show’s opening credits featuring the song.

Below is a live performance of the song.

Lie to Me theme song lyrics (whole song)

I stayed in one place for too long
Gotta get on the run again
I saw the one thing that I want
Hell bent, get outta bed
I’m throwing rocks at your window
You’re tying the bed sheets together
They say we are dreaming too big
I say this town’s too small

Dream
Send me a sign
Turn back the clock
Give me some time
I need to break out
And make a new name
Let’s open our eyes
To the brand new day
It’s the brand new day

I’ve taken hits like a brawler
But I’m getting back up again
And from the moment I saw her
I was hell bent with heaven sent
I’m throwing rocks at your window
We’re leaving this place together
They say that we’re flying too high
Well get used to looking up

Dream
Send me a sign
Turn back the clock
Give me some time
I need to break out
And make a new name
Let’s open our eyes
To the brand new day
It’s the brand new day

It’s the brand new day
I know it’s the brand new day
Come on to the brand new day
I know it’s the brand new day

Dream
Send me a sign
Turn back the clock
Give me some time
I need to break out
And make a new name
Let’s open our eyes
To the brand new day
It’s the brand new day

Grounded for Life Theme Song

2001–2005

Seriously though, I think this show was quite, alright. Back then (in an Asian cable channel), it filled the void between Everybody Loves Raymond and Friends. And, my favorite character would be one of the kids—Jimmy Finnerty—played by Griffin Frazen. I wonder where he is now.

The theme song is this short, guitar-driven tune. It is also regularly used as the background music or between scenes. I do not think it is an excerpt from a complete song, nor is it called anything. Just made for the show. I do know it was performed by the band Ween—an American band composed of the Ween brothers, Dean and Gene. I think they’re quite popular, they have been around since 1984, but I do not know for which songs. Must be an American underground pop thing.

Here is the song in a real episode. Sorry it’s un-embeddable. Just click the link and forward on to 1:16.

Below is the song set to a fan-made (and cheesy) background.
