The Cops theme song, as the chorus suggests, is entitled “Bad Boys.” It is by the reggae band Inner Circle and is part of their album One Way, which was originally released in 1987. The song was not released as a single in the United States until 1993, where it reached #8 in the charts.

Inner Circle is a Jamaican reggae group formed in 1968 by brothers Ian Lewis and Roger Lewis. They were one of the most popular in Jamaica in the 70s. They still perform and record to this day, with their latest album State Of Da World to be released in August of 2009.
“Bad Boys” was also used in the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence film of the same name, and the sequel Bad Boys 2. Smith and Lawrence would sing the lyrics of the song in the film.
Both “Bad Boys” and Bob Marley’s “I Shot The Sheriff” refer to a “Sheriff John D. Brown.”
Cops has been on air on FOX since 1989.
Lyrics (show edit)
Whatcha want, watcha want
Whatcha gonna do
When sheriff John Brown come for you
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna dooo
Bad boys, bad boys
Whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do
When they come for you
When you were eight
And you had bad traits
You go to school
And learn the golden rule
So why are you
Acting like a bloody fool
If you get hot
You must get cool
You chuck it on that one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on your mother and
You chuck it on your father
You chuck it on your brother and
You chuck it on your sister
You chuck it on that one and
You chuck it on me
Nobody naw give you no break
Police naw give you no break
Soldier naw give you no break
Not even you idren naw give you no break
